Why LEARNtheBrand Impact Apparel? What is the inspiration behind the apparel line? What is the back-story of LEARNtheBrand Impact Apparel? How did an educator get into apparel? As we come close to the final months of our first collection, I would like to share the story behind LEARNtheBrand Impact Apparel. This is the story of a social impact apparel line committed to transforming education, one shirt at a time.
When I was a child, my mom was not a supporter of consumerism or materialism. She did not believe in buying name brands or staying up to date with the latest fad. For example, to her ‘sneakers’ (as she called gym/tennis shoes, she’s from New Jersey) were all the same whether they had a Nike logo on them or not. She was a major proponent of my sister and I making crafts for toys and coming up with creative games to keep us occupied. On Christmas mornings, before we opened any of the gifts under the tree, as a way for us to remember the reason for the season, we had to open the gift that ‘Jesus’ gave us first. That gift was simply a scripture that was selected for my sister and I to focus on for the upcoming year attached to a red rose.
On a sunny day, my photographer (Nikko), designer (Roho) and I drove to the Threadless headquarters and corporate offices located on Madison and Elizabeth St. (Chicago, IL). In the parking lot there was a vintage styled steel-clad RV camper with the Threadless logo prominently on the side. As we approached the building, the gigantic Threadless sign made it clear that we were about to enter one of the most innovative t-shirt companies ever. When we entered the nice sized building we immediately looked up, all three jaws dropped, and nearly in unison, Nikko, Roho, and I said, ‘this is cool!’ Before us was a warehouse with hundreds of t-shirts hanging from the ceiling, a spectacular-sized robot, walls decorated with mural art, and in one corner, a photo shoot where a photographer was snapping photos of a model wearing some of the new t-shirt designs. Within this space, LEARNtheBrand Impact Apparel will make its debut to the world for the first time.
I am pleased to announce that LEARNtheBrand Impact Apparel Kiva Zip campaign, as of today 11:38am CST, has been fully funded. We reached our $4000.00 goal! I was doing some table dancing w/the background techno music in this coffee shop when the notice came to me. The last lender who closed the campaign was Sam from Royal Wotton Bassett, United Kingdom! Thank you, Sam!
Good Day All!
I wanted to take the time to thank those who have lent to the LEARNtheBrand Impact Apparel Kiva Zip campaign. We are close to meeting our campaign goal! Today is a special day. Learning Dimensions turns three years old! What a wonderful journey the past years have been. In this blog post, I wanted to share a little bit about how Learning Dimensions began, offer a few lessons that I have learned as well as give a brief status report of some of the great accomplishments within these past few years (Note: Excuse the length of this post, but there is so much that I wish to share with you).
Good Day Friends & Supporters of Learning Dimensions!
More than half of our Kiva Zip campaign has been met! We have $1,725.00 (out of $4000.00) to raise. A good way to celebrate the third anniversary of Learning Dimensions would be to meet our goal by Saturday, August 15. Can this be done? Yes, it can!
Thank you, thank you, & thank you. I am pleased to announce that we have reached more than 50% raised towards our campaign goal! We have $1975.00 to go.
